"Education Equity Now: Every Child, Every Opportunity!"

THE PLAN

As the 201st Legislative District’s next State Representative, Johnny will ensure that every student has access to an equitable, world-class education. His plan will invest a record $1 billion annually in education (public and charter), which will raise teacher pay to the top 5% percentile of the national average for the first time in Pennsylvania history, give every 3 and 4-year-old in need access to pre-k, and get every student online with blended education. Johnny will also address Pennsylvania’s educator shortage and diversify our educator workforce through his proposed (PEERD) Pennsylvania Educator Equity Retention and Diversity Legislation.  The PEERD Legislation will cover education costs for teachers who commit to teaching for six years in one of Pennsylvania’s public schools after graduation amongst other participant gains. Johnny will also fight to make Pennsylvania the best state in the nation for STEM-H and computer science education.

THE WORK AHEAD

  • Pay educators what they deserve and raise teacher pay to the top five percentile in the nation for the first time in Pennsylvania’s history.
  • Ensure that 3 and 4-year-olds in need get access to pre-k through the Pre-K Counts Grant.
  • Get every student online by making an investment in broadband to expand access and lower monthly costs.
  • Address modern-day segregation in schools and create an Education Equity and Innovation Commission, Fund, and a school integration officer.
  • Support and fund charter schools and public schools at the appropriate levels needed.
  • Make Pennsylvania the best state in the nation for STEM-H and computer science education by integrating these skills and principles across grade levels and subject areas.
  • Promote career readiness with investments in Career and Technical Education and building internships and apprenticeships into curricula.

Every student in the Commonwealth and the City of Philadelphia – no matter their background or zip code – deserves equitable access to a world-class education experience whether its charter, public, or private. Our children and our future cannot wait any longer for the investments they deserve.  Johnny J. Patterson, II
